I believe a more unix-y (BSD-y?) way of doing this is to make sure your periodic scripts are running (I do not believe they run when your computer is shut down during their specified time).
You can also edit the ~/.ssh/authorized_keys in your gitosis application directory and fix your key, and then push the gitosis-admin project again (with key fixed of course) again.
This worked like a charm. I too had been noticing my laptop behaving sluggishly at totally random times.

Thank you sooooo much. Those pesky local snapshots were taking up 220GB on my 500GB HDD from building and scavenging a bunch of VM's.
